The work of Atsuko Watanabe is inspired by nature around us. She explains. “My studio practice is rooted in an exploration of my Asian Japanese background. Since ancient times, Japanese people believe that 神†(kami), -God or Spirit- lives in everything: animals, trees, mountains, and even a stone. The core of this belief is that beauty is formed by the harmony of.”

Atsuko’s new installation -Little Prayers- is a tribute to the collection of standing sculptures in Rengeoin Temple ( Kyoto Japan ) and art work Field 1991 by Antony Gormley. Thousand clay figures are all hand build, face line carved and glazed in multiple colors. Otherworldly creatures put their hands together silently and call to viewers conscience. The artist says “ In this uncertain world, they are asking: ‘What will you pray for?’”
