Güttengarden is a community garden program that was launched in 2019 out of the 3500 sq ft backyard of Guttenberg Arts. Despite the global health crisis, we have continued to provide space for our gardeners and patrons to meet safely, learn about sustainable agriculture, harvest food, exchange recipes, relax and share in the tasks and experiences necessary for a productive and healthy garden.

Güttengarden is a community space focused on the cross-pollination of artistic disciplines and ecologically sound horticulture that is located in the backyard of Guttenberg Arts. The program’s intent is to grow membership by providing gardening plots for communal harvesting and to subsidize a meal a week for those involved with growing the produce. Low cost or free classes dealing with organic gardening and artistic disciplines, neighborhood composting, movies, concerts and community get-togethers are offered throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall. Güttengarden is a place where people, plants and machines can learn to get along.

Guttenberg Arts is resolute on providing programming that enriches the quality of life in our community, and over the past 2 years we've witnessed the absolute need for the expansion of the garden program. Our artist residencies, exhibitions, artist talks, free and low cost creative workshops and community garden have all resulted from feedback from direct engagement with regional artists and area residents.

We are seeking to raise $750 through this SeedMoney campaign to add additional raised beds, purchase a new shed and fund stipends for scientists and artists who will teach free community workshops.

We are eager to increase our reach by hosting more community events and workshops in 2021 as well as building additional raised beds to draw more comrade gardeners. This fundraiser will be used for a long-range fund specifically developed for garden related improvements and instructor fees. Some of the free and low cost, outdoor events will include “Introduction to Urban Agriculture” presentations, scientific workshops and monthly botanical drawing classes. This curriculum of both creative and scientific programs uses the garden as a classroom, laboratory and artistic studio for our neighbors and residing artists.

Since 2014, Guttenberg Arts has been a hub for cultural activities in Hudson County, NJ.  We believe that providing communal spaces that promote creativity, interaction and sustainable practices offer the opportunity to cultivate a more positive society.

Guttenberg Arts is a 501 (c)(3) non profit center for the arts dedicated to increasing opportunities for artists while creating cultural experiences for local communities that promote creative thinking.
